Taste Safe Play Dough Recipe

Kids love playing with play dough!

With this easy and budget friendly play dough recipe, you'll be able to make a rainbow of taste safe dough anytime. By baking the flour and using boiling water to mix - it's a combination of these steps that make it taste safe for little ones.

Use jello mix to prevent any staining and as a bonus - it smells delicious while making it too! This large recipe is enough to portion out a rainbow of colors in every batch. Cut the recipe in half if you want a smaller batch.

Have fun customizing it for fun seasonal/holiday themes and store in airtight containers for up to 3 months. My young kids play with their play dough almost everyday and so I make a batch once a month. We make it together as an activity in itself!

Ingredients:

2 cups flour
1 cup table/fine salt
1/4 cup cream of tartar
2 TBSP canola oil
2 cups boiling water
Jello mix (different colors)

Directions:

1. Spread out the flour on a large bake tray and bake at 300 for 15 minutes to kill any potential bacteria. Flour is still a raw food and this step essentially cooks the flour to make it safe.

2. When the flour is ready, add it with the other ingredients (except the jello mix) in a large bowl and stir to combine. The mixture will be really hot so make sure to use a study wooden spoon to combine everything properly.

3. Once combined well, separate into balls and knead in the jello mixes to create fun colors.
